Sumycin . Mechanism of action.
December 21st, 2009Sumycin is an antibiotic fighting bacteria in the body. It belongs to the group of tetracycline for treatment of different bacterial infections, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, urinary tract infections, and acne. It inhibits the bacteria growth.

Sumycin is an antibiotic (tetracycline). It is used for treating infections by bacteria. Sumycin works by slowing real growth of bacteria. So , slowing the bacteria allows the human defense mechanisms to kill them and become healthy.

Uses
Sumycin is recommended to be taken exactly as prescribed. Do not exceed a prescribed dose. Sumycin should be taken on an empty stomach, 2 hours after meals, with a full glass of water. To avoid stomach upset, the doctor can advise to take the drug with food. After taking Sumycin, you are not recommended to lie down for half an hour. So, try to avoid taking it at bedtime. Do not take calcium rich foods, such as dairy products, or calcium-enriched juices, and any antacids containing calcium, aluminum, or magnesium after taking Sumycin. To treat an infection, take Sumycin for the full treatment course. Sumycin does not treat common viral infections.
Dosage is based on your health state and response to treatment. For children above 8 years of age, the drug dosage is indicated on the base of body weight. A standard daily dose is 1g-2g. Call medical assistance, in case of overdose.
Precautions
Talk to your doctor before drug taking if you are hypersensitive to this drug. Do not use Sumycin if you are not sure in bacterial nature of infection, because it may increase the development of bacteria resistant to this drug.
Before this drug taking, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially of the following cases: difficulty swallowing, kidney or liver disease, esophagus problems.
Take extra caution when taking Sumycin in the senior patients as they are more sensitive to the drug side effects. Avoid to stay under sun exposure or sun lamps. Sumycin may increase your sensitiveness to the sun. This medication is not recommended for children under 8 years of age because in kids this drug may cause tooth yellowing and other problems associated with health state.
Side Effects
Get medical assistance if you observe any of the following allergic symptoms: difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, or throat, hives. Stop tetracycline taking, call the doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious adverse side effects: fever, chills, dizziness, severe headache, blurred vision, flu symptoms, body aches, yellowed skin, dark urine, confusion or weakness, trouble swallowing, or swollen tongue.
